Thanks Dave . . . I hadn't notice the pollen at the time but, you're right, it does help the picture.

Very nice macro of the bee, Doyle! Great colours and good detail on the bee and flower. I like the grains of pollen scattered about that you've captured. Dave.

I am completelly biased here, I simply admit, since my grandfather had bees and I was with him every summer, helping to collect the honey. (Oh well, and even more helping to eat it ;-))
But nonetheless, excellent details, colors and perspective of another world that exists in a smaller scale beside our own.
Thank you so much for sharing this, Doyle, since it is a great study, and for me a memory of my childhood!
Keep well, Nick

Just amazing Doyle! The closeness and detail. I love the strong colours. I'd never have noticed with my own eyes- the wings!

Dear Doyle This is a wonderful macroshot!! I find great pleasure in studying all the details like the "sunglass"eyes, the fur and cute plasticlike wings:-)Also very nice contrast caused by the different colours. All the best, Annemette

Thanks so much for the advice and comments Ray. I had been (some time ago) a member of the State Championship rifle team . . . and assumed that holding a camera steady would be easier. Apparently, 20 yrs has more of an affect on one than seems apparent; since handholding the 300mm is challenging. Macro, as you suggest, has similar issues. I figured the high shutter speed pretty much right off . . . outdoors in daylight helped too. Thanks for the extensive comments and for taking the time to educate me.
My best Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~

I love this shot and you have done well with a close up filter/lens. You have captured great details and lovely colours. I have a macro lens and enjoy taking florals with it. I have tried the odd insect but they don't keep very still for long enough for me. All people have a natural body tremor that easily transmits itself into handheld macro work as camera shake unless a high shutter speed is employed. Even when the lens is closed down macro work really needs to be conducted with the aid of a tripod and a cable/remote release. The younger you are the easier it is to control the 'shakes'. So, bright light to raise the shutter speed if you are not using a tripod. You can consider a very high range of subjects for macro....anything you want to get up close to to maximise the effect and the details; the list of possible subjects is endless. Just try shooting anything that it is safe to get up to good and close. I hope some of this is helpful, just remember to try, try and try again....experiment to the full Doyle.....Very best wishes my friend....Ray

Thanks again Laura . . . I appreciate the encouragement but this is, indeed, my first foray into the macro world. I hope you're right that we can pick up some good hints . . . but I'll continue to learn the hard way until then

Me thinks you are kidding about not knowing anything about macros! lol This looks great to me. I don't have a macro lens either, I use my zoom, with fair results. Perhaps some one will come along who can share some hints with us both!
