Hi Paul...Yep...the original is much sharper. I have learned a lot about converting things to put them out on usefilm. Working in the Adobe Color Space and then loading them up to the web takes away a great deal of color and clarity; a lot of people have given some great advice on how to fix that and I have since started to employ that in my photos. Thanks for the compliment, I liked this photo to and at the time had no idea that it would generate any interest, let alone what it did. LOL

excellent landscape... love the lighting and the colors.. the image seems a bit soft. Is the original sharper? Have seen the other comments and tend to agree about the sharpness but it is still a great shot...

Very nice composition. I like the warm glow in the upper left because it fills in the area left by the dark rock that borders the falls --- it's a wonderful geometric feature. The curve of the stream in the foreground is spectacular too. I agree that the image looks soft, and the post by Carsten makes the image really shine.

Anthony..you're correct; I realize that this isn't the upper falls. I had this one lumped in with my shots of the upper falls and just left the name the same. I have changed it. It is a beautiful place isn't it?

I'm sorry but your caption is wrong this is the lower falls there are 3 parts to Yosemite Falls, and yes a very fine photo, my family was there in the fall a couple of years ago and hiked up to the far wall a view I had never got to see before because the water flow was so low

Congratulations, well deserved POD! I really enjoy the compostion, the tecnical aspect has been discussed and BTW I like Carstens adjustments. Naomi...I have never lived there but I would in a second if I could. I seem to be creating a tradition for myself because every year for the last 3 I have traveled the entire Pacific Northwest. I usually start in Phoenix, My family lives there, and make my way out to LA then up to Yosemite, over to SF and then up to Crater Lake, then Portland, then to Seattle, then over to Idaho, into Montana, down to Yellowstone and the Tetons, to Lake Tahoe, then back down to Phoenix. Sorry for the long winded description, but there is so much to see on that route. Thanks again for the compliement! Regards!

Nice ........... I agree with Shawn, in that it would've been enhanced with the shot opening out into the sky and capture the tops of the sunlit rock face. It's such a vast feature that would be difficult to fit it into one photo. I think you have managed the exposure and contrast very well.

Rob, you are solicitous not to tweak your photos with PS - I respect that. But you ask how to sharpen after resize in PS: Resize, then go to "filter > sharpen > unsharp mask". Then start with a radius about 0,8 to 0,9 pixels, set the threshold to 3 and play with the amount slider until you are satisfied (check the "preview" box). Sharpening is no PS tweak at all, it is necessary because resizing of jpegs leads to a loss of detail, and for a downsized image that represents the impression of sharpness of the large original an unsharp mask is almost inevitable, IMO.

Manu...you know..I did get soaked. LOL! There was so much water spray coming off of it that I was drying out myself for awhile; my camera to. I have shots where I was closer and just got drenched! Thanks!

Excellent composition, marred by lack of sharpness (postprocessing most likely) and a lack of detail in the dark area to the right (seems to be pine trees?).
Where is this spot? Tried to find a place at the foot of some tall falls last year but couldn't, maybe I didn't go far enough off the beaten track?

I like it. The focus seems a little soft at the top left and it would have been super cool if the sky could have opened up and lit the entire scene in soft light. But you know, you caught something that was natural, the way it looks without a lot of PS tricks etc. I like it best of all for this reason.

Carsten & everyone who offered constructive opinions, I appreciate it. Carsten, How do I do that in PS after the resize. My original from my camera are 40MB each uncompressed and so you're right...I am losing a lot of detail. I am amazed the pics look respectable. I played with it again and I think I came out with a good balance but I am not sure.

Gorgeous scenery, nice diagonal composition, and attractive color contrast of warm and cold. I am quite sure there is more detail in the original shot, and resizing leads to some loss of sharpness - so I would suggest a bit sharpening after resize

Fantastic light and amazing scene. Picking up on Nigel's point, the balance between light and dark's pretty good (an ND grad might have helped) but the image does look almost abstract due to the softening of detail - when you converted to JPEG, did you go for a low quality level? This looks like 60% or less on the JPEG quality scale.

Nigel...explain what you mean by the technical quality? As you know...by converting to a jpeg you lose a great deal of color and clarity and with these kind of shots it stands out even more. It is however what it looked like there and I could have played with the lighting but I really try to keep my pictures as honest as I can from what I saw. Sorry you didn't like it...I am always up for opinions whether good, bad or indifferent. Thanks...Rob

The compostion is a good one but sadly it is let down by the technical quality.The exposure needs balamcing between light and shade some contrast and quite a lot of sharpening also need adding.
