PRECIOUS!!! I think it looks wonderful in black and white. The contrast is fine to me. What don't you like about it? I can give you some other black and white techniques that will give you more control over the channels that you use (thus more contrast in the areas you want it).

This is a tender moment and great composed,
I have looked at your portfolio, It is very nice although you have a lack of contrast in many of your shots. I get the same with my 300D (have to use PS to fix it).
Anyway it is also a matter of personal taste :)
