Thank you Paulo for the nice comments. This picture is very sad, the cementery was decorated for our Veterans day.

Dear Alison,
this is a beautiful and moving image that almost brings tears to my eyes just from thinking of all the lives lost in vain, to feed the mindless ambition and arrogancy of a few crazy people. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. Is is also a very good photograph in itsel, the angle and lighting are superb - the perfect moment.
Warm regards from Portugal, Paulo
P.S.-Thanks so much for your nice comment on my "Pandapa's pond"

The flags glow with the life they have ended.

It is a discouraging situation, isn't it? And here we start up again in Iraq with half the people thinking it's a good idea. This is a beautiful shot. I love how the shadows of the flags radiate away from the bright sun. And the translucency of the flags. Everything about is just right.

Wonderful shot Alison, Very artistic, I like the shadows and warmth the sunlight gave to the picture. Great shot Alison, these soldiers had nothing to do with their Country's politics and ambition of it's rulers, also this should remind us of those who were killed by the American army in Vietnam, Bosnia, and lately those who are being killed daily in Afghanistan and Iraq. Thanx for sharing Alison, Regards, Khaled.

Superb shot from angle side and I like the light in the top. Moreover, the agony and suffer of wars does not reach those who decided to declarer them. Very strong shot Alison! Cheers & 7+.

This is a really outstanding photo, Alison! I love the sun burst and the lens flare! The shadows cast by the little flags stand in perfect military order, and the angle you shot at makes it seem like they go on forever. I love the way the sun picks up the color in the leaves, highlighting nature's own decorations for the event. Again a great quote - we never seem to learn!

Very poignant in image and quote. The sun lending shadows to the flags makes for a striking overall image. Well done Alison!

There's almost a spiritual feeling to this, with this lovely backlighting on on those flags. Very well composed!
