Greetings Rodger; In most American Museums you can take photos of the Permanent collection, without flash of course. No flash makes it all the more challenging trying to set a mood with the stone work. You are right about her having some male features. Her forehead and eye brow area show some masculinity. Overall she is a girl. This piece I considered fairly clean. Most sculptures of females and males were cut with lots of detail. At first these look very intriguing, but then you find something like this that has simple but true facial features. That is why I named her the Beauty.
I'm surprised they let you take photos. Can't do it here in Japan... Love the marble texture you've captured--just perfect. Strange sculpture, though. From the thumbnail I thought it was a garden statue with two snails crawling over the head! More like a man's face than a woman's, but the hairstyle is definitely more feminine. Odd.
