About
I was hiking in a well known state park here in Ohio. I was after the great images I have been admiring my whole life, great and powerful waterfalls, and tall sharp cliffs cut by raging rivers. I took more shoots in those 2 days then I ever imagined I would. But once I developed the film I was surprised to find that the images that most caught my eye were the tightly cropped intimate portrayals of the great outdoors. The vast landscapes were very good (very good as far as what I normally shoot) but I mostly enjoyed the smaller scope pictures. This one is amazing I ever even found it. It looked to be a normal tree growing atop a rock (which in itself would have been pretty unusual except further hiking proved them to be everywhere). I went behind it in an attempt to get a shoot straight up a very large tree directly to its left when I noticed its unusual trunk. I loved it instantly. The lines on the rock contrasting the long linear lines of the trees trunk, the texture of bark contrasting to the surface of the stone. I just love this image.
