About Felipe W., I owe you an apology :-) I can do it :-)) Yep, went manual on the aperture, used a mini tripod, grabbed the almost-past-it's-prime lily, and had great, great fun :-)

Correct aperture is 4.5 (UseFilm does not have that option)

Still learning though, but my friend, you got me going in the right direction

The black artboard is not looking new anymore and I haven't mastered the PS technique to blacken it equally.

Ruthless critique please! :-))

Linn,
To find criticism in such an image is very difficult.But-and it is a small but,I would like to have seen the stem on the flower. The bud stem is just visable and that is OK.Still a great image.Congrats.

Hello Lin,
yes, manual focusing is the right way to do it...I take most of my pictures in manual mode and ofcourse always try using a sturdy tripod. You are right UseFilm does not have all options as far as aperture and shutter speed goes. I recomend for the BG to use black velvet as velvet asorbs light much better...and is REALLY black.
The image here is SUPER and at ISO 50 you defintely have the best setting and the ripod is a MUST...Suggest spot metering the light!
Kind regards,
Gustav

Just beautiful, but I miss the stem on the main flower. Can just see it along with a leaf. Would have made the pic perfect! Keep up the good work!
Cheers kev :)

Linn, Very exceptional shot! I like the way the bulb comes out on the bottom to give it more dimemsion. The black BG looks fine. Your shots make me want to buy a Z2!
Kindly yours,
Bill

Hi Lori
No, I don't have a light meter. Pity all the birthdays are gone for the year Maybe Santa will bring me one in December? (Robert, are you reading this? )

Jeroen, you sweetie! :-)

Actually, I was going through my old pics a little while ago, and came across my very first floral picture (see below). Then I thought it was the greatest thing on the planet, and a good friend of mine actually had it printed, framed and it is hanging on his wall (fame! ). Now, when I compare it to what I have achieved in these past couple of months, I am proud of myself.

But I haste to say, if it wasn't for my peers on UseFilm, I would not have been able to "grow" as much as what I did.

Not being soppy or anything, I have a lot of people to thank for continuing to advise me, support me and give me their honest critiques.

G'Night

Hi Linn,

Yeah, blah blah blah,...LOL I know only too well how that goes! LOL

Hey, not to worry, yep, you're right; can only achieve so much in a day and I would say you are achieving a BUNCH! Good going!

Speaking of 'manual', do you have a good light meter? If you don't, I would highly reccommend one if possible! They are great to have!

Of course the way you are progressing along, you won't even need one!!! LOL

Lori :)

Hehehe ...
Lori ... I could fib and say that the stems are very dark green; or that natural lighting was poor; or that blah blah blah ... but here's the truth ...my background was not an "equal black" and I used the contrast facility to help that, but in the process (obviously) lost the green stems! Robert wasn't happy with that ... but shucks ... a girl can only achieve so much in one day!

Main thing is ... I got over my "can't do manual" phobia and while I will be taking "baby steps", I am determined to get that shot that will take a lot of breaths away (a girl can hope too, can't she? ) I am still squinting though as I honestly have poor eyesight, but at least I have overcome that "fear" of going "manual". I do admit though that a lot of today's images has seen the inside of the rubbish bin :-)

Linn,

you're going full speed on the learning curve I see: manual aperture, you added a shadow around your pic in PS and the photo is wonderfull, with a super composition.

You are doing very well my friend and I enjoy to see you progressing every day.

Now, within a couple of months, you will have to look back at you older photo's and see what you think of them. I garantuee that your opinion will change

Compliments,
Jeroen

Hi Linn,

Beautiful flower, (manual is fun, glad you are experimenting)

Great detail and clarity! Nice composition, I like that very much. The only thing I would suggest is 'STEMS'....where are they? LOL
I know they are there, LOL, just to show them a 'tad' bit, I think would be good!

Very nice work, Linn. The lighting on the blossom and bud is awesome!

Lori ;)
