Chris, I saw your comment lamenting the lack of constructive criticism of your work, so I will oblige. Some of your photographs show a good eye, but too many rely on some 'trick' (not necessarily a bad thing)to try to add interest: time exposure, infared, pretty scenes. I feel photographers should, in general, try to photograph what painters don't paint. I know that sounds simplistic, but it's a good base from which to start. I know, we all succumb to the pretty, safe picture now and then (I guess those are the shots that sell), but I do not feel that you have as yet crossed out of that area.
I suggest you drop the effects and the sunsets, and bring some tension to your images. Get a little off kilter with your framing, bring in some unexpected elements, push the boudaries of the medium. Photography is not just about capturing on film what is already an interesting scene. Anyone with the right equipment can do that. Check out Cartier-Bresson or Brett Weston (I know, I'm showing my age). Resist as much as you can the shot that almost any photographer would take if they were at the same scene at the same time. At least, if you want to get something unusual, insightful perhaps, and maybe a little disturbing i.e. pushing the viewer out of visual complacency. Remember, your 'job' as an imagemaker is not necessarily to please people all the time, or at all if you like.

i love trees so this appeals to me for that reason right off the bat, but beyond that, this is so gorgeous. The light, the gentle foreground, the wispy moss and your courageous placement dead center in the frame make this image excellent. But bigger, i want b-i-g-g-e-r..size does mean something to women after all, ;)..and, oh yeah, btw..welcome to Usefilm Chris, and congrats on Editor?s Choice! Best regards from Costa Rica: kat-

Nice job of waiting for the right conditions- I tend to do the same thing- notice something along an often travelled route and then wait for the light to get interesting. I must say I'm not a big fan of the large mat and frame, only because the posyings are so small on this site to begin with, and it takes away from the photo. Nice work. Regards, David
