And here's a second crop. It eliminates more of the sky.

I like your photo very much, Carl - it's an interesting old barn, and the red against the trees is quite striking. Speaking for myself, though, I sometimes get more in a picture than I thought I saw - like you did with the road - because I put all my attention on the subject. I'm getting better at eliminating the "extra stuff", and I'm confident you will too. :)

Sorry, Carl, I shouldn't have put you through that; I should have shown you what I meant, instead of assuming you had a graphics program handy. My bad. :(

I'm attaching a crop. There are two possibilities: to get rid of the sky on the right, or not. I sort of like leaving it in, simply because it shows more depth, and the fence.

Sue makes an excellent suggestion about trying out some of the software demos. :) PhotoShop may be over your budget initially, but there are other fine programs out there you can use in the meantime.

It's not a perfect solution, but you could experiment with Microsoft Paint in your computer at home, rather than go all the way to the store to find out if it works. MSPaint is a very poor substitute, I know, but it could save you some time. MSPhotoEditor would be basic but better than Paint or nothing.

It is possible, also, to download a trial version of PhotoShop7. I believe it's free. Check out the Adobe website.

It's a pretty good shot, but the road in the foregroud doesn't do much for me. Is there a way to move closer to the barn and use the wide angle to reshoot? Or, as an alternate suggestion, you could crop (most of) the road out.
