Thanks for your comments Roger. Yes, those are actually clouds in the background. The shadows are the places where the leaves overlap and the backlighting doesn't come through.

The composition is very good in this one, beautifully and delicately balanced. I wonder what the background was? Not clouds in the sky, I feel fairly sure... There's also quite a subtle range of colours. I can't quite work out how those "shadow" markings got on the leaves. This photograph is very interesting and repays careful study despite its deceptively simple initial appearance. You either calculated the effects very carefully or you were very lucky. (Or both, I suppose... {g}).
