An expressive image and I like the decisions you made - I think using only the hands was a wise choice. Your sensitivity when blurring the text is impressive to me. I also like that you used side-light - it highlights her hands beautifully.

Fantastic photo! So strong and emotive, so beautiful with these old hands, in action but in a break with some sleep. Very very beautiful!

Thanks for the comments so far, very welcome. Suryo/John E, I had to blur the text as it is a personal diary and therefore not really for public display. Have tidied up the PS blurring a bit here.

Thanks for your comments Richard.
To me this shows you and your mother have a close bond, very moving. If it were possible I would give it 10 for emotional appeal. I think I would have left the text unblurred, it wouldn't have detracted from the hands at all!

beautiful and expressive, I see some spots that could use a bit of cleaning up in PS that missed the blur, other than that, perfect.

I always find the hands to be more expressive than a face. I am preparing a hand series too, for the same reason. I like this one of yours :)

it tells a story...
what are you doing with the books? i think sharp letters are better than to make it diffuse...
