That will work too, if a bit long-winded. I usually take a center-weight reading of the area beside the highlight, then bracket up to two stops for SHADOW, not highlight (obviously). Then again, I have a 12 megapixel camera, which helps....
This particular image is a good one for teaching students as it has so many complex components and concepts for them to grasp.

Thanks, Graham. I do not spot read much. I photograph with very flat settings in camera and try to get all the information I need under a good histogram. As long as the information is there, the relative tonal values are adjusted in the raw converter and post processing. If the dynamic range is too great, I will bracket and blend several exposures. This is a single exposure.
Your idea of marketing posters sounds attractive! I post mainly on pbase and that site does not have provision for sales. I am not savvy on web design, so I would have to go with a site like smugmug or zenfolio with a pro account.

Terrific 'draw-in'' here, Eb. I almost expected to see you sitting in a canoe right in the middle of the highlight area!
Did you 'spot' read this? Probably almost dead center - to the left of the bright highlight?
Another one that should be a poster. Hey! There's an idea. How about looking into posters for your website? Many folks would love a print of this on their walls.
