a,
your use of color is great. like the expression on his/her? face. full of concentration. foto could/ should be taken lying down so the hands would be complete. maybe some more reflection on the table as well.

Yes, cropping at top/bottom is one of the obvious ways of improvement. I tried a few but couldn't decide which way to go.
I have tried something similar to what you said.. take a look..or do you want to crop further at the top ?

looks like a snapshot but its' much more that that,
it's brillantly composed (love the color-code pattern)and her pose is perfect; perhaps I'd crop on the line of the table (at the bottom) and on her head to crop the lighter area at the top, almost going square
