About Varanasi's "Old City," the quarter near the banks of Ganga, has crowded narrow winding lanes that are flanked by road-side shops and scores of Hindu temples. As atmospheric as it is confusing, Varanasi's labyrinthine Old City is rich with culture, and a deservedly popular destination for travelers and tourists. The main residential areas of Varanasi (especially for the middle and upper classes) are situated in regions far from the ghats; they are more spacious and less polluted.

Varanasi has nearly 100 ghats. Many of the ghats were built when the city was under Maratha control. Marathas, Shindes (Scindias), Holkars, Bhonsles, and Peshwes (Peshwas) stand out as patrons of present-day Varanasi.

Many ghats are privately owned. The former Kashi Naresh owns Shivala or Kali ghat.

Most of the ghats are bathing ghats, while others are used as cremation sites. Many ghats are associated with legends or mythologies.

Doc I love your acid critic just because of a simple reason. We all know we are good at capturing moments but sometimes we might not be sure if it is a good poto or not because of simply because one might not able to take out himself out of the photo!!

me and Avi discussed a good point below which you will not understand :) ..... but we talked about your idea and I will rework this one.

Thanks!!

chhoto sir-er kotha-y: the geometric aspect will make a photo more times than it will fail. ei chhobitar khetre exactly txules jeta bollo - oi radial perspective tai key geometric element. tai dur-er nouko 3 -te break the harmony.

Tui jodi chhobitake simply journalistic/documentary angle theke dekhish, tahole don't touch. otherwise, YES.

I think I agree with txules.. kichhu add kora ta unethical holeo, composition-er sharthe kichhu subtract kintu kora jetei pare.

Tor nijer kothatei: it's not what to include that makes a picture, but what to exclude.

Hi Deb, love the radial disposition of the boats around the jetty and as always the reach colours and ambience but I think compsoition is not perfect: after fix my view on the people it goes very fast to the background where the three boatas distracts my attention so that I'd clone out the boats (even the boat with people on the left) or would try a tight crop going for a panoramic format (not the best, none the less)
it would be nice more light on the poeple's face as well
being one of my favourite photographers you get some of my more acid critics :)
take care brother
doc
