Oh! This is just amazing. The shallow depth of field works wonders here giving the picture a sense of danger. Looks like it's right out of a science fiction story. The light on the ant adds to the excitement. Most excellent work.

Yeah, a brilliant macro. Strange how it seems to have two separate areas of focus. Is this a composite of two separate photos, or did you selectively blur distracting detail?
In any case, the isolation of the insect head, and the isolation of the nearside texture is captivating.

Outstanding macro and compostion with great colors! Did you use extension tubes with your kit lens? Also what was your light source? I can't get anywhere near these kind of results with my 50mm f/1.8 with my kenko tubes. 7/7
