Dave, it is very strong from the point of view of that unusual kind of complexity in a reduced color palette, that is many times a part of natural scenes. But something is missing. Maybe contrast? (Attachment - But then the raised contrast makes the composition weaker.) The timing was very good, but what could make the overall impression better?
Cheers!
Nick

Fantastic shot against a very tricky background. Almost has an eerie feeling to it with the light colouring which to me suits the Owls nature. You are lucky to see one in the daylight. Ours only come out at night to ask who who is there!;)

This one is really nice, especially the look that the owlet is providing. Again, for being high up, the quality of the shot is very good. Great job Dave.

Hi Tim, thanks for the comment! Yes, sometimes I stay up when things quiet down to do my own stuff. My partner and her Mom were walking through the park and an avid birdwatcher happened to mention this nest to them, so I went back a few days later, then found the male's perch a few days after that. You're right, we were lucky! Dave.

oh my God... I hope some day to be lucky to see these birds and take a shot from them... really I believe that owls are the most impressive birds in the world... and here you have almost a full family hahahaha.... amazing... ok, difficult lighting conditions I think, but that photo worths the excellent rate even after that not so excellent exposure because of the subject. best regards!

Nice shot, Dave. Great capture of those owls. Every time I'm looking to your lens I expect to see the equivalent focus (probably 37-370mm) instead actual values.
