Excellent portrait and... hmmmmm different expressions as composiiton, the top two are not soooo happy, against the bottom two that they looks better - happier ...especialy the guy on the bottom left... excellent faces, nice clothing with these special huts!
Hi Alison. Xinjiang, especially around Kashgar where I took these photos, is a crossroads of civilizations. The borders with Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan are all quite close to Kashgar, and its not far off the Old Silk Road, so you can imagine that there has been a lot of interaction between different ethnicities in this region. These men don't look Chinese, and they also dont speak Chinese very well (if at all) since they speak Uighur.
This is one part of China where the Han Chinese are still trying to exert more control over.
Bobot, these men are all from Xinjiang, the far west of China. They're Chinese citizens, but ethnically, they're muslim Uighurs, the ethnic majority in Xinjiang.
They don't look Chinese, i believe this is the western part of China. beautiful portraits, wonderful exposures and details. great sets of fine portraits James.
