Well, I prefer the slice of the previous shot at the top. It removes that hot spot (the sun) which distracts from the subject. The hot spot under the chin (the sun's reflection) is ok because it brings the viewers eyes where you want them (more or less).
The bottom crop on this one is just fine and could be used or the original.
Just for fun, you could even try for a square crop and see where that takes you.

Hey how about this crop? Am I getting closer to your vision. I do like this new ratio... I must admit sometimes I am so restricted by the typical 6:4 - Perhaps I could take a little more off the bottom to make it real panoramic
Thanks for your time. MdW

Your crop across the top is pretty much exactly what I was thinking. I don't mind the panaramic nature of the full width (with the new top crop). Very cinematic. You really think the sides need to be trimmed?

Thanks for the comment James. I gave that a go... here is what I came up with. Was a bit harder to balance the photo, now that I have cropped Pezi's head, but the dark/light contrast is still very strong with more focus on Pezi, rather than the whole scene. Cheers MdW

I would crop more off the top, even remove the sun by cropping just below it. Great work otherwise.

Thank-you... The light was just magic, not the best sunset ever, but we had a lot of fun playing with shadows and silhouettes.

A beautifully silhouetted portrait, Michael! Very romantically toned and composed. Dave.
