Kristupa, you have, in this photo, captured the immense grief of this old man and portrayed it in such a way that I could feel his sorrow. This is really an exceptional piece of artwork and you must be congratulated on the quality and composition. In colour you would definitely have lost a lot of the atmosphere of the photo.

I can't help but have a moment of silence for this man and for private moments of deep sadness that so many of us have when we think no one is watching. Timeles & intimate--what a provocative image. Wonderful juxtaposition of textures from the aged man's threadbare, almost ragged, sleeve to his plush hat & whimsical woolen scarf. For me this figure is all of humanity steadfast against uncomprising odds which, like the adjacent dry stone wall, rise and rise and rise . . . .

A powerful portrait that makes me almost embarassed to witness this man's grief. He's not just sad, he's heart-broken! That gritty dark and stony wall behind him contributes to the somber mood, and the highlights on his hands draw your eyes to him. As someone else says, even the hands show grief... This is portraiture at its soul-searching best. Thank you for this, it's an inspiration!
