Excellent cityscape with perfect quality, and sharp details, really you freeze your camera, nothing moved and so the details are great even the distance goes long...I know...tripod needed BUT EVEN THAT cannot gives use so sharp photos, I bet you use telecontrol on your camera, absolutely excellent shot!!!

A beautiful night shot, John! The type I like :) Really a shame they covered the beautiful wave-like glass roofing in the middle with those office towers..
Looking at it, I feel again like going out there and capturing the night... but instead, I'm still spending hours on dpreview, trying to pick my ideal DSLR... ;) Anyway, the search will be over next week - has to be - will inform you on the results - probably some will appear here... (finally!)

Cheers Doyle for a super detailed critique. So now it's time to respond. Deep breath, here goes...
Noise reduction: not used here because of the ISO setting. I haven't often used it actually because of the long in-camera processing time that then results immediately after each shot.
Softness: well, the wind was howling up there, which may have introduced some slight movement. But I was using a sturdy tripod with legs unextended, and the self-timer set to 10 seconds. While I do notice some movement with the 70-300 when the shutter first opens, this shouldn't be a problem with a 15s shot using the 18-70.
Tilt: the image has been rotated slightly so that the terrestrial horizon is absolutely level. This may be deceptive because of the bank of cloud that just happened to be on the horizon, and the bank is thicker on the right than the left. I agree about the tilt of the tower, although I think it is to be expected bearing in mind my position above it. My feeling here was that the tilt of the building was balanced by the angle of the road on the right.
OK, I think that covers it. An excellent critique that made me go back and look at this image again in detail. It also gives me some things to think about next time I go up there!

Looks nice John . . . and great to be able to keep the ISO down to 400 with a 15 second shot!! That HAS to help the NR. By the way . . . did you turn the Noise Reduction on in the camera settings for this shot? . . . I usually don't . . . but a few times I have come to wish I did! I'd love to know how you deal with it (use it or lose it?) You pulled out a relatively good comp and did get the requisite glowing quality that comes from these longer exposures . . . but I have a sorta' feel that the image is perhaps a tad soft . . . just can't tell why. No way you tried to handhold this for a 15 count . . .
The horizon has me somewhat baffled too. I'd have expected the building on the left side to line up neatly with the left side edge of the shot . . . but it seems to tilt the top of the building closer to the left side than the bottom of the building. This gives a slightly tilted feel overall since the building is prominent . . . or my meds are kickin' in. But you're far too skilled a photog to have a 2 degree tilt. Attached a 2 degree tilted version for you to consider.
Still, overall I'd say this was a very good to superior shot. Cetainly look good mounted . . . :) itltop (hehehehee)
Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~
