Hi Sally! If you look at the "setup" comment you'll see that I had a basin to catch all the fallout. And since the road outside was being dug up at the time I couldn't get the car in the garage, so really not much mess at all (except in my head!)

Hi Gayle! Thanks for your comment - yes, I think this one really does need to be seen in full pano mode to be viewed properly.
Unfortunately the beach in Tarifa is being subjected to a "recovery project". (For my thoughts on this see my comment on Jan Hoffman's "Lunch on the Beach".) I'm afraid that my imagesake has probably moved on to pastures new, possibly greener, possibly heavenlier.

Very clever and inspiring! I love the way that the 'height' of the water in each sequence forms almost smooth peaks and troths.
I agree with Doyle in that the corked image is essential.

Thanks Doyle! I redid the pano several times until I was happy with it (including one abortive upload - I thought it looked fine until I saw it on UF...)
There was continuous light to one side from a desk lamp shining at the bottle, plus on-camera flash for each shot. I experimented with various setups and found this combination produced the best light in the bottle with the least disturbing reflections and shadows. The backdrop is a black T-shirt on a box (it was getting hot in there!)
The water came out quite slowly so I took as many shots as I could in the time it took the bottle to empty. What I missed in this series was the last empty bottle - I considered taking it from another run but it didn't look quite right.
This all started out with another idea in mind - so the original idea is still in my head and will remain there a little longer...

PS. Though no alcohol was harmed in the shoot itself, a certain quantity may have been consumed by the crew...

Ok John . . . THIS is cool! Creative and good use of light . . . and I was Sooooo relieved that no actual alcohol was harmed in the filming of this image! ( * Whew! * ) The first, corked image, was essential (IMO) to this pano and while I did figure out how it was done before reading your generous explanation . . . I'm not sure about the lighting you mentioned. The sidelight was ambient and continuous light and the flash was the on-camera flash?? That's it? You seem to have the progression timed quite well . . . I'm guessing a flat black backdrop. I like it. :)

Hi Anna!
It's no secret - here's a shot of the setup. What you can't see is the superglue that attaches the bottle to the wood, the food colouring that went in the water and the lighting that came from a lamp to one side and the on-board flash.
This is one complete set of nine consecutive images from full to empty, combined in PSP9.
