Thank you so much, Andre! So this is how we call that, leading lines! I use such lines often but I knew them as "escape lines" from projective geometry. (Mathematician, you see ;-))
A very interesting webpage and site that you sent me. Thank you for telling me about it! I would recommend that to everybody that shoots photos!
Hi Nick, It is really quite a simple photo or painting technique that you definitely understand even if you aren't familiar with the term.
I'm refering to the winding road starting out at the front right of the image and winding / leading into the image. This draws the viewer's eye right into usually the most important or most interesting area of the image. It also serves to give some depth and perspective to the image.
Here is a site with a bit more info on the technique. There is a picture on the opening page that uses a winding road leading into a bicycle racer. You have seen a million examples of this and taken many yourself. Railroad tracks, roads, rivers, shorelines etc. etc.
Thank you very much for the nice comment on this one, Jan!
Lucerne is indeed a special place. Starting from the centre around the river, over the old or the new part of the town, up to Lucerne backstage which is a real artists colony, you can always find so much to capture.
But most of the photos I see are from the touristic places and this is why I want to make some kind of small dedication to the unknown parts of Lucerne backstage. This one is near the "Loewenplatz", the Lion's square, and I took that when I was returning home after a long jam session night, in which a long haired photographer was stomping metal riffs and guitar thunders with some... reggae musicians. Poor reggae musicians! ;-)
Something great is happening here and I have the luck to be witnessing it. After many problems and much argueing between people of different cultures, beliefs and political sides in the 90s, it was these unknown parts of the city where it started. And so you can see for example swiss, indish, serbian, croatian, iranian, and whatever other small shops you might imagine, all in a raw on the same street, and a colorful crowd in that kind of exchange that results in a very rich mixture.
This is why I am trying to get that UF-meeting done here. I just have to organize that and make it happen some day. Of course it will take much work but it is worth it.
I like the depth and angle of view of this photo. Wonder what it is like to drive this road in the bad weather. The location has a lot of "personality" and so many of the places you photograph look so interesting. Lucerne must be such a beautiful place to live and visit. --Best to you, Jan
