Thanks for your comments here, Nick. My favourite is the other version with the grey background. But what you write about the light is very true, this was my purpose. As for wide angle: here, according to me, one of the strong points of the pic is the strong tele-effect. I would have not changed it for a less dramatic wide. Best, Gyorgy

Dear Nick,

thanks for your visits and very thoughtful comments. Unfortunately the original of this was rather weak, noisy and uninteresting, this is why I have experimented with effects and a radical crop compared with the original. There is no point to see it, unless for educational purposes. Warm regards, Gyorgy

It is a good one for hie and composition, György, as far as I can see through your alteration. It must have been a good image for itself, perhaps even better in original. So any chance to attach the orihinal too?

Cheers!

Nick

What I find most exciting here is the light itself, as it seems to circumscribe everything, György! It lets everything bath in it! And so the atmosphere is conveyed quite directly and strongly, especially as still enough good details are there to make contours well perceivable.

The chosen perspective is great too, and it helps the composition to be balanced and integrated. Except perhaps for the half cars and people on the foreground. Perhaps a wider angle would be a better choise.

But the sense for the atmosphere still wins.

interesting shot - the canting of the camera really works, giving that austere gate a rather formidable presence - my only suggestion, if you consider reshooting, would be to leave just a little more sky space in the upper left corner where the spire cap gets cut off and the top of the chimney is precariously close to riding the top edge of the frame - good work

I wonder what you would make of the inhabitants of my part of the UK Gyorgy. Cambridge is quite a photogenic kind of a city with lots of opportunities for candids as well as architecture. You have done well with this shot and yes it has been improved upon. The tones are typical of our usual grey weather and the detailing is excellent, well done to you. Best wishes......Ray
