We also keep our monitor calibrated and I see detail in the whites. I also like the diagonal lines. very well done.

Just beautiful little bird. I love the detail you caught in the plumage. I wish it had been a little brighter, but the circumstances probably didn't permit it. Nice work.

Well..my monitor is sensor calibrated and the exposure seems pretty much dead on. The white balance is a bit off making the blue cast but that can be fixed fairly easily with a levels adjustment with software. Nice comp with nice diagonal lines.

I enjoyed this. On my monitor it is a little dark, maybe it's just my monitor.. The shadow lines on the snow lead me to the water's edge.. If the water was still, and the reflection a bit more visible, this would be 100% for me, so unfortunately you will just have to settle with m 98.5% rating .. Seriously.. good photo.

Jerry - Thanks for the comment. I like the Sigma lens lots, but it is quite heavy.. because of that weight, had to get a new tripod (really needed a new one anyway, but news lens was a great excuse!). I have 2 complaints about the lens otherwise.. first, the weight of the lens makes handholding shots even at wide angle difficult and tiring, also shadow of lens shows up in shots when the lens is fully extended. Other than that, I'm quite happy with it. I too started with a Rebel, and went digital from there.

Nice composition! There is way to much contrast and all most of the detail in this magnificent animal, on the shadow sign is lost. Using an ND filter or a corresponding broadening of the levels should bring the highlights and shadows into recordable range.

Clark's Nutcracker, isn't it?

Nicely done, but I find the blowout around the eyes and lack of a catchlight detracts. In fact, the lack of detail in the eye kinda makes me think of "Children of the Damned". At the time, there was probably nothing that could be done since the sun was so high. Was this bird close? I recall that they're very bold around humans; if this was that kind of situation, maybe a fill-flash would have evened out the light.

I like everything about this! we usually ignore the more common birds but they really are very pretty. Just a tad sharper wouldn't hurt. really excellent.

C J,

Really nice colors here. Seems a little soft in focus, might try more dof (close down your aperture and slow the lens speed down). Real nice background! Keep it up,

another beauty CJ! wow, this is just to peaceful looking, incredible capture at sunset. I love the sunset light and silhouette effect of the dear, I find myself wondering though what this would look like if the right area was cropped - just a little to take out the glow of the sun, but still leaving the sunset hue behind. Maybe its just me but my little eye is wondering what to look at primarily, the sunset or the dear...just a thought, still a good image. always enjoy your postings!

I like the emotion you captured here. The angle you chose I think helps to more fully convey the intimacy of the moment...his foot over her leg, his hand touching her back...From another angle, I think a lot of that would've been lost. Thanks for sharing this one.

"Little boxes, On the hillside

"Little boxes are all the same
"There's a green one and a blue one

"And they're all made out of Ticky Tacky

Am I dating myself by knowing that song? :-)

Very cool, CJ. Very strong message.

Thanks for the comment. I took this photo from an overlook in Shikahemmy Park in Pennsylvania. I was supposed to be up there taking beautiful photos of the two rivers merging and the marina and the bridge, but this view was what caught my attention. I couldn't get over how square and lined up this neighborhood looked from up there.
