Yes looks like a great place to hike. I have an Island I like to hike on also. Its called Angel Island and best time is the spring when the wildflowers are in bloom. Excellent photograph.

Thank you! You have a very nice portfolio. I did not have the chance to look at all of them but I will because animal photos are my favorites.

I like what you have done with it. I have a protector on my screen at home, and I realised I was working on my pictures with it and attenuating all the colors and shadows...I took it off but it was too late for this one! Thank you!

Many years ago I spent a holiday there, wonderful island. Good idea to include a person in this shot for a feeling of dimension. Nice colors, I like the lighting also. One thing is the tonal range, I had an impression of flat tonality @ the shadows and looked into the histogram. With a slight adjustment of levels and a wee bit "S" shaped curve in PS you get a bit more ?push?, IMO. Anyway, very nice shot!

Thank for your comment, the whole island is a big blossom. In French it's called, l'Ile aux fleurs...The Flower Island.

Thank Mark for the comments, I appreciate it. I got a small digital camera for my birthday and I took my fist pictures in Madeira, Portugal. I will be putting them on the site gradually. Let me know what you think. This website is very inspiring...and yes I hope to improve! I speak French so it is ?merci beaucoup?... obrigado is in Portuguese. Have a nice trip back! Jacinthe

Jacinthe - good connection with the dog in the foreground. For animals, you might try either capturing the whole body or cropping down to the bare essentials. In this shot, you might try cropping landscape mode to keep the dog in the background. I'm on a computer in the Narita airport right now, so I can't try it for you. Maybe when I get home.
You say "not a photographer", are you looking to improve? I'm not a photograher either, but I enjoy trying to make a good photo now and then.
Merci beaucoux (or is is obrigado?) for the comments on Sentinal and others.
Mark
