Hugo,

The shot shows a lot of pool because that is what it is - a pool shot. I have a few shots with the horizon in the top third of the frame but this is the shot that everyone liked best

Thanks for the comment Joanna. I was actually going for a soft look; In retrospect I should have blurred the wiskers so the whole image looks soft.

Thank you, I actually used the landscape style in the Canon's new DPP. It saved me a lot of work that I would have usually done in PS.

I love it. How was this lit? A strobe illuminating the background and a softbox slightly to the left?

It was shot like this intentionally, I did not want more detail and edited the photo as such. Besides, if I used a flash it would be noticeable on the glass.

I believe I was shooting at ISO1600 @ f2 and 1/45. These new cameras are incredible, I mean it was pitch black in there.

I love the gradiation of the sky. I'm amazed this only got 22 views; sometimes it makes me wonder what people like to look at.

Overall, I like it. I think you could have used a tiny amount of fill flash. (probably using FEC off the skin and dialing in -2 comp). The face looks a bit off focus.

The lighting is good; could be a stop brighter, but the face is out of focus.

I like what you did with the first shot BTW. If it was the only shot I had then I would have followed your suggestion. I bought an Epson 2400 so now I print 13x19s and it is just amazing and so much fun. Thanks for the comments; I really appreciate them.

Jan,

Thanks so much for the feedback and the comments. I actually meant to do the picture this way. I wanted the butterfly blending with the background; it is printed 19x13 and looks a bit different on paper. This is a set of two going in a bedroom; the first being a close-up (tighter crop).
