For once I'd like to talk more about the editorial content. Let alone the technicalities. This photograph is powerful!

A wonderful picture, Dennis. The title of the piece perfectly matches the look on the dog's face. Nice tonal range and composition.

Edward: I appreciate your kind comments. Thank you. I somehow managed to get the exposure right on this one, at least in getting the look I wanted. I used the in-camera for this although I still sometimes use an incident meter. I used to use an M3 as my main camera and always carried a hand held meter... sometimes reflective, sometimes incident. Oftentimes, however, I simply used the sunny 16 method which becomes fairly easy once you get accumstomed to it. As for filters I keep a Leica UV filter on my lens, mainly for protection as I don't like to use a lens cap. Thanks again.

Dennis,
Congratulations on your beautiful portfolio.
I love this particular pitcure because of the balance of the dof and the shutter time. The people of frozen but just barely so they are slightly blurred. The contast range of the film is used and shown. The street light seems to be burning during daytime.
The shadows are beautiful. The detail in the balconies. I cannot even choose what I like best in the picture. The technical exposure and beautiful print, the composition and your eye for detail or your feel of the 'decisive moment'.
I am a recent M6 user.
I hope you don't mind the following question;
Do you use an incident type light meter and do you use filters?
Thanks. Edward van Herk (member)

Interesting picture with a hidden message.

At first glance, it's an image that tells the story of a brave dog and a loving master.

On second thought, it shows how pets in america and europe receive better medical treatment than millions of people in thirld-world countries.

And not just third-world countries, as the location of this shot illustrates. This dog is better off than many New Yorkers who can't afford health insurance.

That makes this a great picture. Even if the alternative message is unintentional.

Nice perspective and strong contrasts, nicely composed with the shadows, contrast well controlled excepted the completely black part at the rhs. Maybe there are some reserves in there which you can activate by adjusting the curves, some very few and tiny little details there would make it perfect !

Thanks, Kevin. Are you familiar with Robert Frank's shot from his book "The Americans" of people looking out from the windows of a streetcar in New Orleans? This shot was taken at what's known here in New Orleans as the "Street Car" barn, where the streetcars sleep at night. A Mardi Gras group known as the Phunny Forty Phellows kick off Mardi Gras season with their street car "parade".

Huh... very spooky... and dreamy... super nice work here! You must love Neopan!!! My favorite film of choice. I use nothing other - unless I need 3200 and I hit the Ilford. Nice camera too! Gotta love those Leica lenses. Superb!
