So, Todd. Is this a rough legged hawk?

I'm amazed at the volume of photos you manage to produce, many with excellent quality. Cool you use your 300 so much -- I have to confess that mine lives in the case, as I spend most of my life working.

Brilliant sharpness, and good contrast with the background blur. Is this a short-ear'd owl?

Oh, sorry for the repeat comments. Usefilm wasn't apparently getting my comments, and I didn't know they would be recorded after the fact.

Interesting photo. I presume you masked the eyes and laid a sepia cast to the rest of the slide.

Excellent sharpness in the eyes. White balance seems a little tungsten-shifted on my moniter - especially in the whites of his eyes -- is it the same on your moniter? I never did that important step of calibrating my moniter, so it could be me.

Excellent sharpness, and I really like the expression on the rider's face. Too bad you didn't keep a program from the contest, as I'm sure she would like this one framed.

Good effort for a difficult subject, using a very short lens for this guy.

Thankyou, Kim. I haven't been here for a while, and didn't notice your comments. Indeed, what limited my interest in replacing color was inexperience with photoshop, and the fact that my previous attempts looked fake because of spill onto adjacent areas. This effort is a lot better than I have had in the past, and I'll try using it one day. Cheers.

Thank you, Kim. I don't like the background either. It is actually better in the original, but the shot was underexposed so I had to boost exposure to get accurate detail in the subject. The bird was in the shade so I also intentionally overexposed since I knew my lightmeter would try to make the subject too dark. I did try to move a little but I knew he would be spooked as I moved around.

I admire those guys who can drop in a better background, as whenever I try that it looks fake because of the tricky edges.

Good for you to get down to the dog's level with a longer lens. The ball says it all, 'Retriever'....

Interestng portrait, nicely composed, good background, and enigmatic expression. The halo above her head is a little distracting -- not sure what the intent of that was.... It looks like sloppy photoshop masking of a levels or curves layer. If so, minor working of that mask might make a big difference. If you shrank the mask it might disappear into her hair. Were you trying to provide better definition of the hair against the background? Or did you project a snooted flash against the background to augment the contrasting hairling?

Brilliant lighting, Yamil. Was this flash, or natural hard crosslighting?

By the way, Paul. The wife and I will be visiting Oregon coast next week. Do you have any suggestions about photogenic areas? We thought we might try Newport beach....

Hi, Paul. This reminds me of an old member here, John Shepard. When the sun went down his camera came out, to catch that purple light. Well recognized.

Nice to see you still post here, Kim. I've been posting on other sites, and learning some off-camera lighting techniques as well.

Beautiful symmetry in Nature. Now I remember, windless BC days. Hope your vacation went fine.

When I glanced through the thumbnails I thought I recognized the Bugaboos. Not so, Patagonia!

Black and White was a good choice here, in the genre of Ansel Adams et al. I find these are difficult because of the great tonal range. Well done.

Opportunity found. Takes skill to have luck. When all the rest of us would be wrapping up, those with insight wait a little longer. Hope your camera was OK.

Hello, Todd. I find bird photos especially difficult to shoot with a creative eye, as you have done here. Your usual exquisity sharpness, despite the waning light.
