I agree with you that film looks better than digial. but the original looks great, its just that i use windows image editor to resize my pictures. so thats what takes the quality down alot. but film is still nicer looking, i agree with you.

Thanks man. Yea i really like digital. Its very forgiving, so its nice when your a newbie. I have only been doing this since last November. Plus i like how digital can be a one step process instead of a like 3 step with film. cause with film you can mess up on one of the 3 steps exposure, devloping, and processing. I mean i love the clarity of film, just its way to expensive. When i bought a digital camera, i decided that i wanted alot of manual features of a film camera, so i would get shutter and appature. so i got the Kodak DX6490. It was $500 but it was worth the money that i spent for it. One thing that i did, that suprisingly alot of others don't, is i learned every feature and every setting on my camera, so i understood it all. Next kodak didn't have a lens filter attachment thing for my camera, so i couldn't use lens filters... i was mad about this... so i went out and bought a 39-49mm step-up ring and a pop can, (mountain dew and it was quite good). Once i finished that i cut the pop can so it would make a sleve around the barrel of my lens, then i hot glued the step filter on. After it was done, i could now use lens filters, i was really happy. but the only thing i do is leave my camera on manual setting all the time, so i have to set everything myself, and i learn alot. I carry my tripod and lens filters along too. So i hope that answers a bit of what you were wanting. go ahead and e-mail me sometime drew@bigplanet.com. thanks man, and have a good day.

Great first attempt. Very natural and clear. Amazing to get that nice expression in bright direct sun!! Try some shots in the shade for fun. Most excellent tones!

Great shot, Drew. I might have tried to keep more of her right arm, but it may have hurt the nice tight framing you have achieved. The lighting is a bit hard, but I think it works in this shot. Very nice. Lou

Well I like the expression and all, I think you have an eye for that part of photographie. My main problem whit the picture is the digital quality, that's why I still work whit films. It takes down the feeling and qaulity of the picture, and thats just to bad. But thats all, I like the composition, low point of view; Good, keep it up! Tim.

one problem that i have is that the shapes coming in from behind the model's right are. To make them less apparent, i would go lower and make the sky the dominant background or I would use a longer lens to soften the background considerably..

yea! man. i love my kodak. did you hear that they are comming out with the lens filter attachment? they are comming out with that and a Schneider wide angle coverter. I'm pretty sure the filter size is 55mm, but i'm not 100% sure. go check the www.kodak.com to find it. the coupple things i don't like about the camera, is that you cant intercange lenses (thats not a huge problem) and the other is that you cant focus manualy.. that is the worst. I pick up my moms old Canon AE-1 and i just fall in love with her camera cause of all the manual features. but eh, you cant be fully picky and have a small wallet eh? thanks for the comment.

Given the harsh nature of sunlight without any fill, this is a very good portrait, and you had her pose at just the right angle.
That said, you can use an inexpensive piece of white foamcore to bounce sunlight into the shadows, softening them up considerably.
So, you like your Kodak, Drew? I have the same model, and I'm having a blast with it!!

well either you have a natural model or you have natural talent. Drew I love it oh I am sure you will get a lot of feed back . be free and natural see the photo in your mind before you take the shot don't force it use as many cameras as you can and keep shooting watch the light photos are nothing more than light all the best John

Otherwise from cutting off part of her right arm, exposure is good and the pose is acceptable. You have her off center which is good. Cropping otherwise is good...

Hi Drew Well Its 4 am and I can't sleep just sitting here when I came upon your portfolio
Every now and then I run across a novice with talent like you. It all ways gives me a rush. advice----Fun have a good time be open or you will get bored. Use as many different cameras you as you can(very importent don't use auto programs use manual only)) , shoot the same photo 5 or 6 times at different times of the day learn to see the light You already see the picture in your mind thats why your shots are so good Congrats John

I too am not an expert in the advertising area. I really like the shot, simple is good, but the first thing that stood out was the lighting on the left side of the jar in the foreground. The right side is bright and catchy but the left side is blown out and detail lost. I would like to see the forward jar as clear and detailed as possible. Just my thought.

I like the concept. The limited DOF is good. I'm no expert in the advertising photography field, but I would guess that it must be to very exacting standards. Based on that, I think attention to detail should be a tiny bit better as the foreground jar doesn't sit exactly central in relation to the two behind, and the rear one's are not quite level with eachother. The highlights created by your lighting on the jars and lids I think could be cloned out easily in PS. Please don't be disheartened, I'm not trying to pick your picture to bits, I'm just guessing that to sell this kind of image, it has to stand 'head and shoulders' above the rest. I am just beginning to experiment with still-life photography myself with varying degrees of success! Good luck with your new venture.
