Very funny! There are so many ways in which this can be interpreted.

Nice macro, but, from the caption, I was expecting to see some "shishirbindu" (dew drops) :-)

Great colors, but rather too busy. I'd prefer a tighter crop to eliminate the horizon and probably even the boats.

Thanks, Mitra, I liked the overall warmth of the image too.

Very nice. Very funny! Botanical gardens downstairs, zoological gardens upstairs!

Technically, the dark areas are a little noisy. I wonder why.

Great shot! I'd suggest cropping a bit from the right side of the image. Since the dancer is pointing slightly to our left, the dead space on the right seems out of balance.

The dancer is actually depicting Shiva, not a cobra. However, snakes are associated with Shiva. Hence the snake around the neck.

Thanks, Len. I like your suggestion. It did occur to me back when I was preparing this image, but I went against my own best advice:-( and was too committed to preserving the aspect ratio. I will take your advice and re-crop this image.

It certainly goes without saying that the anonymous individuals whose work built, maintained and restored this and other similar edifices around the world is simply amazing and goes unsung everyday. What came as news to me on my trip was the fact that Hugo's Les Miserables actually inspired a small boy to study architecture so that he could lead the restoration of Notre Dame.

Nice shot with layers of meaning and reference. I agree that it's a good idea to include the bit of city visible in the upper left. However, I also agree that you might be better off without the blown out sky. Try cropping just the top; never mind the odd aspect ratio that may result.

Wonderful portrait of a very unusual animal. I'm assuming this species also undertakes the sort of seasonal and dramatic mass migration that its cousins in the Serengeti do.

It's tough to find a perfect solution. A lot depends on the scanner you are using. It also helps to know what the original film was as the color characteristics of Kodachrome and other slide films are quite different. For negative film there is the added complication of the overall color cast added by the developing lab. My Nikon scanner has different settings for different slide and negative film.

In general I find I have to do quite a bit of post-processing in something like PS to get the color and contrast right. Of course, you have to start with a scan in the highest possible resolution and color depth.

Happy scanning!!

I've had the same problem too. Hence, this time I tried "painting with light" by:
a)using a long exposure that would still underexpose in available light alone; and
b)manually firing off my hand-held flash at low power from different directions

This is one of my rare "staged" photos. I normally prefer to shoot fast, hand-held and candid.

Nice composition, James. Thanks for the historical context. The Xiongnu are basically the ancestors of the people we know now as the Mongols, I think.

Wonderful insight into Japan. I've seen Japanese paintings depicting lions and tigers sort of like these sculptures, created before the artists had actually seen these animals.

Lovely! Love the contrast between the gold of the lights and the blue of the sky and water.

Wonder what the plant "debris" is at the foot of each support - birds' nests or river debris?

It turns out the "iguanas" on the Galapagos Islands are iguanids, but not "true" iguanas! Also, these beasts are supposed to be mainly herbivorous. Wait till I show the rest of this guy.

I've never had octopus dumplings, but fried whole mini octopus in Italy was absolutely delicious. Also, octopus sashimi is something I could go for.
As for iguana, I'll bet it "tastes like chicken" :-)
