I like the color version specifically because the sky is so blue! To me the black and white version looks too somber, whereas the color version is more uplifting. I hope that poor little bird that's about to smash into the wall was alright!

Excellent study in sharp angles and shadows! It looks so cold and utilitarian, but I guess the FBI doesn't have much use for aesthetics! I'm surprised you weren't taken down and your camera smashed!

Hi Stefan,
Your approach to the FBI is very unique and special. I love the upward perspective and the black and white conversion here. The bold outcome is fine by me, so I don't think that work on levels is really necessary.
best wishes. Thilo

Yes a matter of taste - but the b/w version would not catch my eyes in the same way. I prefer the colour version - even thought the sky are so deep deep blue!

You are right, better this version, in my honest opinion; the wall texture and brightness too contrast in an excellent way with so saturated and colorful sky,and more:the shadow on left corner side enhance and add more value to the composition!!!!! Best.

I shot this with the intention of converting to b/w but the very bright sunlight on the building left me with such a powerful blue sky I couldn't help but to show it...

Hi Becky - this girl doesn't do "posing" - it may have something to do with that girl power thing. We she does sometimes but they are easy to pick out from the goofy smile she produces. Hence the crop too - the left side is simply the edge of the frame :-) That said, I agree with you that having the whole (blurry) hand there would not be an improvment.

Was this a spontaneous capture, or a pose? Regardless, what really works in this portrait's favour is how the body and arm are positioned as well as the angle of the tilted head. It's very dynamic and draws the eye in much easier than if this had been a more perpendicular shot. I particularly like how the arm kind of swoops from the body into the foreground. I'm usually not a fan of partially cropped objects, but I think cropping out part of the fist was a good decision here . . . you don't really need it to convey the "power" in "girl power" - it's the face that conveys this message, and in a more interesting and complex way. Too much blurry fist in the foreground would have been distracting, methinks.
As always, and this is said with the usual jealousy, great job with the tones, especially considering the light coloured jacket against a fairly dark background.

Sorry Stefan, looking again, I haven't been able to find the Ernst Haas image But will let you know if and when I bump into it again. Meanwhile, if you haven't seen the official showcase site (www.ernst-haas.com) there is now only the other famous (B&W) self portrait shadow - in the B&W gallery.

Hi Stefan,
compiling the annual calendar... this is something we all do - at least this is my guess ;-)
Good to have such colorful explosions in times where rain or snow is the king.

A little wonderful princess! I just love this portrait, her dress with flowers, tights with stripes, pink flowers, yellow scarf in the hair, red shoes, blue flowers on the ground - and then her EXPRESSION! So mauch to look at, and so lovely! I imagine how she might look at this 15 years in future!
