The one thing that really grabbed me with this one was the detail in the snow and the falling snow itself. Very nicely done!

I'm with Alex about the title, but I definitely like the photo. Its got a nice range of subtle tones to it and really like the texture you captured in the snow. Perfect contrast for the type of scene it is too.

Seeing that this was done for the Grainy Film for Effect project, I would have to say that you have achieved the feeling of the snowy evening.

It would look good up on a wall, but it would have to fit into the decor. I like this shot, something I would like to call my own.

A bit dark but what the heck, that's what night walks look like around my house too! A good capture that portrays the darkness and quiet of a snowy night in the city.

That is starnge, you got the boy almost at very center of the picture, horizon cuts picture and boys head in half and still the picture is pleasant to look at

it is not oversharpened, I do not think, as much as poorly compessed by JPEG.

i really like all the different lines and shapes, and how its somewhat symmetrical. i think you could lose the curb on the bottom, but its still a pretty good picture.

There is alot to look at here but that is a good thing! I think you may have oversharpened this one though. New owner has a thing against windows?

Very good lighting here S! The twigs don't bother me that much as the model stands out from the background quite nicely. Well done and on a side note, it is good to see you here. Looking forward to more from you.

Danie: I do not usually shoot for books. This was a sort of accident, a favor for a friend who was doing a favor for a friend, etc. I do always shoot digital, and Sony happens to be the maker of my camera.
Sorry to disappoint. I am really really a beginner at this. Shot posted here had to have been #1500 or so of the lifetime pictures taken (now the number is quite a lot bigger, even if pictures are not). Thanks for visiting.

You say you do covers for books.. Do you always shoot digital? and do you always use the Sony?

Hmm I'm not particularly bothered by the sticks. I didnt even notice them as distracting until you said they grew out of her head. :-) My eye was drawn to her face immediately, leaving the twigs to be a rather neutral background in the sense of shapes... not in ambiance as I explained. Maybe dodging or blurring the darker twig a bit could help. But the only one that would be distracting IMO would be the one on the right as it is darker then the others.

Thanks Julien. Nothing. What really bothers me about it are the sticks growing out of her head. Otherwise it is reasonably nice. I shot this completely unprepared, in about 20 seconds for 4 shots, 3 of which "ok". I have since spent a while trying to get the same look/feel out of a model and *nothing*. Regression at its best.

Very well lit for an outdoor shot. (compared to mine :-) ) Did you use reflectors or flash? I love the way the background combined with the look on her face/in her eyes creates a strange ambiance. I'm surprised to see this photo hasnt received any comments... maybe because of the error that haunted this site for the last couple of days.
