Due to recent conversations with a friend, I cannot help but comment on your photo... and say I appreciate the dreamlike quality, as well as the colors and classic composition. The soft focus works perfectly, adding to the dreamlike quality, to set this "rising" mood. Good work.

Mike,
This is a really cool shot!
Too bad people don't take the time to open it and really look at it.
Beautiful moss and the water taking different paths. The composition and lighting are excellent! I hike a lot so I love a scene like this.
Keep it up!

Dave, thanks for the suggestions. I did not touch the pic in photoshop. The reason that it is a little soft might because I used slow shutter speed and my tripod is not so good.

Excellent colors and dramatic movement. The scan is a little soft, did you resharpen? Maybe there was mist on the lens, you don't have much time to bang these off before you need a towel.

Bill, thanks so much for the comments. It is just what I want to hear here. Even I can not go back that place to take the same scene again, Now I understand why selecting a good time to take pic is so important.

Just my two cents worth, Mike. First I like the overall feeling of the walker looking out to the ocean and his dogs frolicking in the surf. The shot was apparently taken midday and that is always difficult. If you look through usefilm at all the photos people loved, they are usually early morning or late afternoon when the sun's light helps improve the overall look and mood. You might try these times for your next photo forays. Secondly, your vantage point does nothing to help accentuate the feel of the surf. If you shot from the beach, the waves would surely look grander and might give the scene more feeling. Lastly, I am not sure how to do it, the subject (s) are spaced all over the frame. There is nothing to guide your eye, no definite direction or definite central theme. I think someone said if your photos don't look good you aren't close enough. I think you should try isolating your subject. You can try cropping this shot tighter on the walker and see if you like it better.

Again, it's all about how you feel, not what other people say about your photo. Just keep shooting, keep trying different points of view and you will definitely improve.
