About The California population of hawks is greatly augmented by winter migrants and these supreme predators can be seen almost anywhere.
I was looking for Kestrels but this Harrier appeared in my path. I saw him hunting mice all over the field - he appeared tireless in his search. Their illusive prey, rodents, makes their flight appear indecisive as the swerve and dive from one potential target to the next.
This Harrier allowed me to get within 6-7 yards of him. I was so excited by the sight that I have to confess I felt an adrenaline rush.
I hope you enjoy this close up of the Northern Harrier.

Hi Yamil, These guys are great to watch.. I have been a Ham Radio operator for 40+ year and here in Arizona these guys land on my antenna (55' high) and watch the whole area.. the wing spand must have been 4-5 ft on the last one I saw up there!! They stay for the winter and head back to the mountains when it gets hot.. Great shot! ..I bought the 1.4 extender for my 100-400 and it autofocus great if you tape over the last three pins on the left side(as you look at it)..that will put you out to about 890mm good luck
Don.

A gorgeous closeup, Yamil! I don't blame you for being that excited to get a shot like this. At least you didn't get "buck fever", and blow the shot! Absolutely beautiful colour and fantastic details.
Dave.
