don, you gotta love the desert in full bloom. i like that you chose this hillside showing the saguaros growing in the background. i've always liked these views of them (and joshua trees as they grow in similar patterns). this is one of the things that struck me the most when i first visited a desert. those cowboy movies really had my perception quite skewed.
take care, tom

Hi Christian, I use the 18-70 if I want very wide angle and use a tripod. If I want to hand hold some pictures I use the 24-120. They are both very good lenses. The 24-120 is pretty heavy. Thanks, Don.

Another perfect shot. You have managed very well with the high sun. The angle is well chosen with just enough shadows to translate the 3Ds. I see you use both the kit 18-70 and the 24-120. The latter is VR ? How do you compare them ?

Thanks Den, your comments are most welcomed. The desert is very green this year as we have had more rain than normal. In another couple of months this will look very different. This big saguaro cactus is only native to this part of the southwest and will only grow at certian altitudes. They are so awe inspiring and regal. They also grow very slowly, when very dry as little as one inch a year. These big ones can be several hundred years old. Don.

Don, I always thought that this sort of cactus was common place in most parts of America but reading the comments I couldn't have been more wrong. This image, which I REALLY do like so much, has taught me so much ie these are not common and not all the desert is dry and dusty as The Duke had us Brits believing. Den

Looks like your day trip was a success, Don. Nice composition. I like the way the cactus march up the mountain and the yellow poppies in the foreground offsetting all the green. Well done! All my best regards, Larry

A beautiful western landscape, Don! It's surprising how green it is, not the stereotype of cacti surrounded by desert! Dave.
