Matej,

Thats a good point. But even the carpenter doesn't refrain from his skill knowing he may cut himself once in a while. I think its part of a mind set. many of these athletes both professional and amateurs are very good about knowing their boundries and limits. If I'm out shooting with someone and they say that they can land a trick, I don't question them, and they don't question themselves. It's quite intriguing. I myself was never as good at some of these sports as I could have been because I DID think of the consequences. I think its part of what makes them great, to push the idea of failure so far from ones mind that they are willing to put mind and body at risk.

In any regard... thanks so much for looking, I value your input greatly!

Cheers,
Toby

I don't doubt they know what they're doing and that they have great skill, but... We have this saying that even a master carpenter will cut himself once in a while. I'd expect that in these sports, any odd, unlucky accident may have quite severe consequences. Oh well, I guess the risk is part of the fun :-)

Matej,

It is very normal for these individuals to not wear any kind of safety protection. I had a short discussion with someone recently who found this quite troubling, stating that the individual was lucky to not hurt themselves. i disagree, and liken it to the following situation... If you were to take a photo, and an individual was to tell you that you were lucky to get the shot, you might be offended. Knowing full well that your skill, talent, and knowledge all came together to create an image. The same goes for these athletes. It is not luck that they accomplish the things that they do, it is skill and athleticism.

I'm curious, is it usual for people not to wear any sort of protective gear when doing these stunts?
