Good use of the panorama format, Chris, and nice rendering of the sky and the textures of brick, grass, etc. The angle from which the brickwork on the ruined church is being illuminated doesn't appear consistent with the brightening of the sky behind the building, which makes me a little uneasy. But your eye for the overall effect is unerring, as usual. If God had known better, perhaps He would really have made it look like this?

Hello again Jim,
I've learned just about all I know about Photoshop from following the excellent movie tutorials on the cover of Digital Photo magazine.
Having said that, I realise you may well not live in the U.K. and so may well find it difficult to get hold of this superb magazine.
However, there are many similar magazines on the market and this may well be one polace to start.
Alternatively, you can often find step-by-step tutorials on the web. e.g. at: http://www.absolutecross.com/tutorials/photoshop/

I am not going to ask you for a tutorial on combining images. That said , I will however ask you for basic ideas as to where i can find such information. I Have shots with washed out skys for instance that if combined with another sky shot would be great. NO CLUE HERE ! I shoot wildlife where is as is, but want to broaden my horizons.

Hi again, Jim,
Again, no filters used in this one ~ or should I say 'two'?!
Because this is a composite ~ two shots, taken within minutes of one another, in more-or-less the same direction, and then combined in Photoshop for effect.
I know some photographers have problems with this and will never do it. Fair enough, I respect them for that decision. But I see myself more as a photoartist. This is a hobby for me and I just enjoy producing what I consider to be beautiful images. If that means cloning out overhead wires and aeriels, so be it! I'll do it! If it means healing a blemish on a petal, I'll do it! And if it means dropping in a new sky, I have no problems.
An artist rarely paints all that he sees in front of him. If an oil painter had sat in front of that old abbey, he'd have sketched out the abbey, taken it home and then painted the rest in the way he saw it in his mind. I try and do the same with my photos.
I've got a lot to learn, that's why I'm here on Usefilm ~ and also on photo.net ~ and it's a joy to be getting a little better every day.
I appreciate your comments and value my inclusion on your list of 'friends'. I hope this confession won't make you change your mind! :>)

Are you implying that you were supposed to dust and vacuum this place as well Chris? To me I'd sooner paint the Forth Bridge and can't get on with anything flexible. That includes paint, washing up water, tea towels etc. As for ironing - well you want to see the mess I make of socks. Stiil haven't acquired the knack of pulling them over the end of the ironing board.
Terrific picture though. I particularly like the half windowed arches. Worthy of a close up perhaps?

This image ... mmmm ... gloomy, kind of spooky atmosphere. I would definitely not venture there - I am scared of ghosts and yes, laugh at it if you want to, but it is true.
Great tones and colours; obviously a beautiful piece of architecture (so what else is new in your country? ) but what really grabs my eye is that patch of ember coloured sky.
As always - great stuff from you.
