About During lunch the Local mullah showed up, and at once, the conversation ceased. With his shades and prying eyes, he measured the situation, eating silently. Very much a part of Duzaj, he is too young to have experienced the earthquake of '64.

Your comments are, as always appreciated, Cheers,

Hugo

A fine portrait, Hugo!! (I've had to go right back in your portfolio to find a picture that I haven't commented on!)
My only slight quibble with this is the burnt-out white line down the nose, but I guess that would have been difficult to avoid with such a range of light and shade.
The number of views and comments you amass for your work is, I'm sure, a testament to the high quality of your work and the helpfulness of your comments.
Best regards, Chris

this is a great photo, he looking at you with the corner of his eye, He has a nice maintaned beard, he is dressed nicely. the black and the white is so nice. I dont know who he is but he much be extremely rich, with all that wealth coming off him, but with all that he doesnt look very happy. I think I know if I had a heap of money, with a swimming pool, surround sound in every room, my own chef and cleaner, I would be jumping off the walls.

The documentary photography ,such as a progress, report, recording, enviromental or human social life, is an evidence of what is, or had happened.
Seeing those series photos, ,to me they are representing portrait category rather documentary.
Persons including in such documentary photography, normally involved, with surrounding elements and ?fallen? more in the way of field of social life activity ects. rather in face expression, apart from the ?title?, the images themselves are of great values and qualities, well done ,Saeed

Hi Jon, Thanks for your comment. I'll have to get back to you on the JPEG question (and I will...;o)

But for the record, It is not my local mullah, nor am I living in Iran (nor am I Iranian...) My wife and I went to Iran on holiday, and we were there in the right place at the right time to do some documentary work for Dutch television and the UN....'

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Hugo,
Another very good photo, You caught this man mullah with his eyes just saying what he really is and feels. The angle (again) is almost everything on this picture. I wonder if they use their power with wisdom...
Cheers

Wonderful character, great portrait. His glance is very expressive, the lighting, the strong but not oversaturated colors matches the subject perfectly.

hugo, wonderful capture! this doesn't look like it was shot from the hip, how did you manage to get it? this guy looks extremely suspicious and looks very unhappy to have a camera pointed at him. excellent realization of the subject and situation. my favorite of the series as it has that elusive "tension" you always look for. simply wonderful!

take care & keep 'em coming,
tom

This is a nice, frame-filling, informal portrait. We seem to be drawn into an interesting person's life.

A rather forbidding presence. And your portrait shows that very clearly. For once, I don't miss the catchlights in the eyes. The dark, blank look seems quite appropriate! Thanks for your detailed comments on my three themed pictures. Peoples' varied reactions and recommendations (including yours) very much parallel the problems I was aware of as I took and then cropped the resulting pictures. I think I am beginning to get the hang of this "people" thing...

Hi John, A mullah is a religious person, The black turband implies he's a (very distant) relative of prophet Mohammed. They hold tremendous power in Iran.

Cheers, and thanks for your comment!

Groet Teunis
