Yeah I like the black and white, cropped rendition better, even though you lose the matsuri stands and hanami atmosphere.

Matsukawa San, you are right! I will upload a more closely cropped version of this picture in B&W, which also eliminates the over-powerful effect of the blue groundsheets. That will be the best I can do, I'm afraid... (can't take it again!)

Williams san, When I took a look of your photo, I thought, definitely you want to express their view of life and their course of life among these 3 groups. WELL DONE photo containing and expressing NOWADAYs INDIVIDUALS . Here are my frank comments for you. I think , in oder to express what you wanted to say about this photo, it was much better for you to take this at much lower angle. So that you could get more clear countenances of these 3 groups and could eliminate the blue groundsheets and might be more cherry blossoms. Regards, Koichi

Debra, I believe there are not nearly such a high proportion of homeless people in Japan but they have a MUCH rougher time, hounded out of their parks and shelters, not provided regular welfare support of any kind, and regarded very unsympathetically by the general population. I tried to encourage work among them in my denomination (which I'd been doing in England before I left for Japan) and was actually told quite confidently "Oh, they PREFER to live like that!" and "They've mostly run away from family responsibilities and shouldn't be encouraged." Argh! Some work did start (meal services, etc) so I wouldn't like you to get the idea everyone was as unfeeling...

Chris, you put your finger on exactly why I am (I confess) rather proud of this one. Not bad for someone whose safety "exclusion" zone extends out just about to where those people were sitting! As for the remarks, well, there's a lot more to praise in your work than there is ever anything I feel competent to criticize!

Excellent panorama taking such a wide range of human life. Wealth and poverty, loneliness and togetherness, youth and old age, etc. It's all there! Good work, Roger! Have a great Sunday! Blessings, Chris. P.S. Thanks for your recent kind remarks ~ I especially appreciate them because you've proved you're not afraid to be honest!!
