The Sultan Hassan Mosque was built between 1356 and 1363. It is considered stylistically the most compact and unified of all Cairo monuments. The Mosque is one of the masterpieces of Mamluk architecture and considered to be Cairo's finest example of early Mamluk architecture. In fact, many guide books refer to it as the finest ancient mosque in Cairo, and has been praised as one of the major monuments of the Islamic world.
