About From Shoreline Park.
According to biologist Phil Higgins, this year three pairs of owls at Shoreline have 5, 2 & 1 chick.
So far I have seen 7 of them.
I have been trying to get at least 5 chicks in one shot but they don't want to cooperate.

Yamil: They are elusive little birds. I plan to go out on an expedition for them near Denver soon. This is a wonderful image and I only hope to come close to one as good. Thanks for your kind comments.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your kind words.
In photography details are proportionally direct to how close you can get to the subject.
Sometimes I use a camouflage net that works nice especially for kestrels and sometimes with white-tailed kites.
For the burrowing owls is a different scenario. They are use to see bikers and joggers all the time so they are very tolerant to people and you can get very close to them.
This particular shot was taken in a protected area call Shoreline Park in Mountain View California.
This family lives in a small mountain next to a paved road and you can get within 20 to 30 feet and they don’t even realize that you are there.
And definitely I have a lot of patience. But it's not only about taking pictures; I really enjoy going outdoors and watching wildlife interactions. So it doesn’t bother me to spend 2 hours in the bushes.
To increase my chances of getting good shots, and when the weather and time are favorable, I like to go out early morning from 7 to 9 AM and late afternoon from 6 to 8 PM. That’s when you get the best light. Then like you said, you just wait for the right angle.
Take care my friend.
Yamil

Yamil, I am amazed at how close you seem to be able to get. Do you use a blind? You must have really good patience to wait for the right light, the right angle, the right moment....

The muted toning of this image ensures that the vitality in the eyes of these birds remains the focus. Those eyes are beautiful. The composition is superb, I feeel that three of anything works. I like the way the grass is at an angle and the backround is non-intrusive. Delightful. Cathy
