Country - South Africa   South Africa
About The larvae of an emperor moth species (Saturnidae), feeding on the compound leaves of a black thorn tree. This species and especially another related species - the mopani worm (larvae of Imbrasia belina)form an important part of the diet of the indigenous people of the northern parts of southern Africa. During a favourable season the larvae are produced en-masse, to such an extent that they strip most trees and shrubs of all there leaves, even causing death of game species through starvation.

This is fantastic, Joggie. So beautiful yet so destructive. Like so many things in nature. Your image is perfect. Great detail, sharpness and composition. This would be perfect for a nature magazine. Cheers, Ann.

I've admired a great number of beautiful photos in the walls of your many galleries but this one seems to me the queen of all!
What I like: the perfect harmony ond matching of the colours, first. And then the little brunch of round leaves that creats a discovery mood, correlate to the hidding desire of the worm shown by its stooping down head behind the leaves. The file of shining small horns and all the others patterns of ornament make it seem an extraterrestrial creature. The perfect neatess and great details is standard, but only for you.
What I don't like: anything.
Bravo it's not enough!

Giuseppe
