What?!...you don't like the almost flourecent pink keyline? I suppose it does remind one of those velvet paintings of Elvis from Tijuana even though Kiera is cuter than Elvis in my book. The arms were actually posed that way for a reason. Reminds me of a famous portrait from a couple centuries ago that I cant quite recall by name but I remember seeing this pose, or something similar, but if it's behind her back you want then check out my next post. (red keyline will still be there I'm afraid, but it's just a web image gimmick that will disappear in print. I've actually had some positive reaction to it on another site.
Thanks to all for the nice comments and good suggestions.

Beautiful colors and lighting. This is the best lighting for a small child. Don''t want to get too dramatic now that will come later when they are teenagers. Don.

I love the lighting, love how she's turned, love the red dress, love her expression, and love your backdrop!! Nitpics are the red pinstripe is just a bit too bright, I would tone it down darker (or take the brown from the background) or make it thinner, and don't particularly like how her arms are just hanging there. On a nice chair or clasped infront, or behind her back maybe? Still, this is yet another fine portrait of a lovely young lady. She's lucky to have a grandpa like you to document her growing up with such skill!!

Nice portrait, Robert. Personally, I find the red border distracting ....

great portrait! I agree the typical say cheese portrait are nice, but not very original. I often see people commenting that a child would look "sad" on a portrait that show a a relaxed or normal face. Maybe its the fact that our socienty sees children as ever smiling & happy especially on photos. I really like to take photos of my kids in normal situations in whatever mood they are in at that time. And I love a more dramatic look.
I like her experession here a lot. It reminds a lot of the gaze I see on my kids sometimes. When they look at me like that I always wonder what really goes on in their minds.
Any way, great photo, I'd love to see this kind of expression in a more dramatic light and staging :)
