Thanks francesco, I shoot handheld most of the time with birds, I do use tripod for longer shots with my heaver lenes....

Hi Marcus,
I'm pretty sure this is a Black-crowned Night Heron. I spotted one about a week ago and attempted a couple of shots. I got a couple from some distance away. The bird was just sitting motionless. I would be embarassed to post mine and have them compared to this! This shot is fantastic!

He is tip-toing into the water, complaining about it being too cold.
What a strange-looking heron. It looks a lot like some kind of lapwing, with that head-dress! Nice focus and details on the feathers.
