Hey Markus, the duck is really smiling- did you show her something? Another great capture of yours! Great colors and detail against this blurred background. ?..unfortunately I don?t have D70 but Lumix- despite what I had told you some time ago- just life and in fact there?s not so many ?that type? birds to hunt for over here. I think I?ll trade my Lumix?s zoooom for more pixels. All the best, Pawel

great infight capture of this colorful duck here.
nice dof in the background.
I also blur the background in this case, but I do it manually around the subject, time consuming though.

Nice shot Marcus, good title for a shot that makes this guy a little more personable looking.
Sorry about your injury,I know how shoulder neck problems can be, I've suffered pinched nerves from time to time. The sharpening thing shows a little here but you do a good job of using it discriminately. Take care.

ma questa semplice espressione mi sembra un pň riduttica per questa bella foto, che non solo ha catturato il germano, ma lo ha raffigurato in modo perfetto

Hi Marcus, I was only joking around about the injury, as I'm sure you realized. I had a similar thing myself last year (from hockey) I didn't need an operation, but it took at least six months for me to be able to tuck my shirt in without pain.
Andre

Marcus Armani Marcus Armani   {K:36599} 4/17/2005
Thanks for the comment Andre, My rotator cuff was injured pitching, but I keep agravating it shooting birds, I do use a 4lb lens and the camera is a pound, I am right handed and do shoot handheld, so my shoulder takes most of the weight when moving around....

  0

Andre Denis Andre Denis   {K:66407} 4/17/2005
Nice shot Marcus.

How does a rotater cuff interfere with your photography? Don't you use a tripod and one hand to press the shutter? You aren't throwing your cameras at those birds are you? :)

Andre

Yes, right after I wrote the comment I check out some other photos for the USM and I realized you are very much a fan of that, which is ok, it looks nice. I think I'm a little different. I rarely use USM on my photos except landscapes.

Thanks david, This was about 1/3rd the full frame crop, He was pretty far out, that is why I did the USM for a very busy backround which looked ok, then I decided to add a blurred backround layer leaving the duck a bit over sharpened, but I was too lazy to start over again, and If you look some of my other shots you can see I am a sharpenAholic LOL....
Thanks again..
Marcus

  0

David Hofmann   {K:22223} 4/17/2005
wow this is an amazing catch! I tried ducks, too but usually they were fast than I was :)
How much of a crop is this photo? The only nitpicking (but it might be my tired eyes) it looks like you use heavy sharpening here.
