Very nice. Great pose, good detail, and the brown bird really stands out against the water.

Fantastic work getting AF to work at speed against the water in the background - I find it often fools the sensor.

Sadly, another bird that doesn't seem to like Britain, or for that matter, Europe!!
Cheers
Steve.

Wow simular situation, I was shooting a Kuk sool won torny Here at SF state, also a horribly lit gym, My brother is a Nikon buff for many years and he had his D1X, I had my 20D with a 70-200 2.8 IS, we had the exact same problem, No flash allowed, I did have the 3200 ISO of the 20D which gave me enough shutter speed to stop action, the nikon at 1600 ISO was slightly blurry, so he took many great slow or no action shots, and I took a ton of fast moving action shots which are sharp but I can see I will be removing noise for weeks.. I dont know that there is a real answer for this problem As even a pro sports photographer would have problmes In gyms lit this poorly

I actually just bought the D70 a couple of months ago and took some wrestling photos, I bought the 50mm lens f/1.8 and no flash along side the mat. I used Aperature priority and set it for 1.8 to get the most light and the only way I could get no blur was with ISO mode of 1600. I tried setting it for 1000 and 800 and when they did much motion they would blur. These are typically in gymnasiums with poor lighting, but any help/idea would be greatly appreciated. I did get decent shots with the 50mm lens but still got decent noise which I had to filter out.

Thanks for the comment, The bird was just flying by at about 50 yards, Not really fast but not slow like landing speed, I am trying to figure out what you mean by using ISO 1600? what would that help except cause noise? do you mean shutter speed?

You have some excellent photos of Birds. Was the bird gliding? I can't believe it turned out that well with ISO 400, I was having to use ISO 1600 for some of my action shots (they were indoors, not as good of lighting), but your's are great.

Another great shot Marcus,
We also have a lot of unusual birds around this time of year. I'm not really a bird watcher, but I assume it's because they are in some kind of stop-over phase. I even saw four turkey vultures the other day. No decent pics though.
