Thanks for the comment Siddhardha, there are bad copys of all lenses, the 70-200 F/4 Is a great lens I use one for a year before I got the IS version, the reason you hear so much about problems with this lens is because it outsells all the other canon L glass by far, and you only hear from the few who have problems, no one ever comes online to post about a lens that works perfect.
There are some tests that you can try If you think you have the typical problem that most people complain about which is front or back focusing, but In my opinion is that most people that complain about this lens is for the reason that they try to get more reach then the lens is capable of and end up with very soft or blurry shots... here is the link to the site that will give you a chart to print out and shoot at to see if everything is ok.

Fantastic capture Marcus! All of your bird photos are wonderful. I have a lot to learn when it comes to capturing flying birds. It is not easy, as I found out on the weekend in the middle of a flock of seagulls. You'd think you would get at least one decent shot just snapping away with the auto shooter on, But not me :( Maybe next week.

Excellent capture Marcus!! I really love these flying birds. Last weekend I gone to Pantanal, that is a very beautiful flooded ecosystem where we cam see a lot of birds and other animals, but we are in a very rainny period and the birds are difficult too see. :(
