Hi Brian, Nice depth of field on this! I really like the purple colors and your composition is also good!! I would have liked to see a deeper background on this, that way the eye doesn't go to the lighter spots in the background. (just my opinion..:)
Thank you for your comment on my flower. In response to your question (black background), the flowers were cut and inside the house. Window light and sky light and reflector. Behind the flower was some black material, but the whole background wasn't originally black, didin't have enough fabric. In Photoshop, I darked a bit with levels, that made the original black nice and deep black. In the other areas, I used the magic want to select the non-black areas, feathered by 5 pixels, then filled with black. I had to touch up a few areas with a paintbrush. it's so nice spring is coming! Lovely sharp flowers, the back ground is a little distracting, perhaps opening up the aperture a little wider would have solved this, but the colours are lovely.
