Thanks for your response(s) Mirek and I do understand what you are saying but not necessarily in agreement as it applies here so perhaps it is Al's turn to reply if he wants to ...

Hello Sunset Man. What I like to see in a photograph is an effort on the photographer part in creating an image. Just pointing a camera anywhere and pressing the shutter release does not qualify as a good photograph to me. I think I am very unique in my taste. I just like to see photographers to try hard. I hope this answered Your question.

Superb capture!! The perspective and the quiet atmosphere that one can feel in this shot give rise to a wonderful composition. This is a well deserved BIP. Cheers

Mr. Richard Thornton has said it best while expending a bit more time than others of course. My only recommendation would have been a desire for a little more clearance at the bottom for the reflection taking the jetty (?) into the right margin at the rule of thirds and then perhaps cropping the sky into the upper rule of thirds again composing the entire very unique B&W scene panoramically. Just my thoughts Al. What do you think? Nevertheless ... thanks for sharing and Best of Regards! BTW ... What was the ISO on this great film with hardly any grain at all or was that because of the 'One-Of-A-Kind' Great Camera or the negative size?

this photo takes me to a place, much like the one i go to keep my wits about me.. a body of water always makes me sense the insignifigance of anything that may be turbulent in my life at the time. appreciate this piece becuase it captures that...the vastness of space and time. thank you sandy

This is in the minimalist tradition, which I like in principle. The dreaded "negative space" is therefor neatly sidestepped since it's an element of the total design. I like the graduated tones, top to bottom. The horizon, fairly close to the center of the image, logically divides the picture into two segments. All the action transpires in the bottom half with the top half serving as a mere place marker, containing nothing. That is why I usually like to see the foreground object break the horizon plane and intrude a little into the sky area. This adds tension, creates more visual interest and binds the two areas. In this case, it's a little disturbing, wondering what the subject is and not having the question completely answered.

Al, it has happened again here, so perhaps this was a good test... My ratings on composition and lighting keep on getting reversed when they are submitted... Just a glitch I guess you should be aware of..;-))...

Now here is someting to be really proud of imo. As I explained on your other shots, I am not exactly into this kind of minimalistic art. Yet, I truly love this. Nothing I would want to change ! Congrats.

I like this, nice clean graphic composition. Could you have tilted down just slightly more, or cropped less from the bottom, to get the full reflection of the stick? I can't tell if that would be better without seeing it.
