the vibrancy of the colours and sharp details is what hits the viewer first! then comes the gorgeous light which is distributed all over with much care! In addition, and the most important point, for my opinion, not only on this shot but in photography, and that quite too often we forget to attribute the success for a great shot, is the composition! which i find it spot on here!~

But you took several steps at the same time, Dave, and how well you did that! I am impressed by the purity of your details and the very very complementary lighting. Ther is shadow and there is highlight, and especially those highlightson the leaves at the right put such great accents on the image! The DoF fits exactly here and makes not only colors but also shapes very tangible.
Any chances to let us see some more of the University of British Columbia? You see, you hit also my wish to sit on those or similar steps with a pile of books, pencil and paper! ;-) There is something in the air in such places of intellectual activity.

Nice shot, teh old rocky stairs really looks like 'huged' by the nature here, beautiful plants around on a very nice frame Dave.
